President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full investigation into the brutal ing of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Chiranci community of Kano State, describing the incident as barbaric and deeply disturbing.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President strongly condemned the and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. He stressed that such acts of violence are unacceptable and assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement said. Tinubu also commended the Nigeria Police Force for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and directed security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of those responsible.
According to earlier reports, seven persons, including a 35-year-old woman and her six children, were ed on Saturday during a violent at Dorayi Chiranci Quarters in Kano. The victims were reportedly ed at their residence by suspected hoodlums who broke into the house and inflicted fatal injuries using dangerous weapons.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the police received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on January 17. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed a team of officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani, to the scene.
The victims were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. As investigations progressed, the police announced the arrest of three principal suspects following intelligence-led operations conducted between the night of January 17 and the early hours of January 18, 2026.
The arrests were carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, under the supervision of the Kano State Commissioner of Police. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and justice will be served.
