Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has emphasised the importance of making films that are worth watching in theatres as the global film industry faces growing challenges from streaming platforms and shifting aunce habits.

The actor shared his thoughts during a media interaction in Paris while promoting his latest movie Project Hail Mary.

According to Gosling he now prioritises projects that offer aunces a compelling reason to visit cinemas rather than simply watch films at home.

He said at this stage of his career he wants to focus on films that deliver a unique theatrical experience and leave a lasting impact on viewers.

Project Hail Mary is a science fiction adventure based on the novel by Andy Weir the author of The Martian which starred Matt Damon.

The film follows an astronaut who wakes up alone on a spaceship with a mission to save Earth from a mysterious phenomenon that is dimming the sun. As the story unfolds he discovers he is not alone and forms an unusual partnership with an alien he names Rocky.

Gosling also served as a co producer on the film through a partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.

The movie arrives at a time when Hollywood is confronting major industry challenges including layoffs declining box office revenue and increasing dominance of streaming services.

Despite the cing landscape Gosling remains one of the industry’s biggest stars having delivered memorable performances in blockbuster and critically acclaimed films such as Barbie, Blade Runner 2049 and La La Land.

Reflecting on his career which spans more than three decades Gosling said it took time before he felt confident enough to pursue roles in the way he truly wanted.

He noted that early in his career he often appeared in serious independent dramas where humour was rarely encouraged. However in recent years he has embraced more versatile roles that combine drama and comedy.

The actor said Project Hail Mary felt like a meaningful film he wanted to make for his children and their generation especially because of its hopeful message about curiosity collaboration and facing the unknown.
