A 43 year old entrepreneur, Richard Akinaka, has formally declared his intention to contest the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the next election cycle.

Akinaka made his declaration on Saturday at the party’s headquarters in Yenagoa, where he submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms. He explained that his decision followed an earlier public declaration at a party gathering earlier in the week.

Speaking to party members and supporters, he said his ambition is driven by what he described as a long standing leadership gap affecting grassroots communities in Bayelsa Central.

According to him, his personal experience living among rural communities has given him a clearer understanding of the socio economic challenges facing constituents.

He stated that his candidacy represents the collective aspirations of the people, adding that he is committed to improving living conditions at the grassroots level if elected.

Akinaka also stressed that leadership should be based on competence, accountability, and responsibility rather than age.

He noted that being 43 years old should not be seen as a limitation, arguing that performance in office depends on capability and commitment rather than age.

The aspirant said he is confident in his ability to represent Bayelsa Central effectively in the Senate, adding that his focus would be on addressing development challenges and improving the welfare of his constituents.

His declaration adds to the growing list of political aspirants positioning themselves ahead of upcoming elections as political activities gradually intensify across Nigeria.
