Reports from Mexico indicate that solrs have ed Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as El Mencho, the alleged leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

There was no immediate official confirmation from the Mexican government regarding his death. Oseguera had been one of the most wanted men in both Mexico and the United States, with American authorities placing a 15 million dollar bounty on him.

If confirmed, his death would mark one of the most significant blows to organized crime since the capture of Joaquin Guzman and Ismael Zambada, founders of the Sinaloa Cartel, who are currently serving prison sentences in the United States.

According to local reports, armed groups set vehicles ablaze in the western state of Jalisco, blocking major roads in what appeared to be a coordinated attempt to disrupt security forces during the operation. Similar unrest was reported in neighboring Michoacan, another region where the cartel maintains a strong presence.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, formed in 2009, has grown into one of Mexico’s most violent drug trafficking organizations. The US Department of Justice has accused the group of trafficking , , amphetamine and fentanyl into the United States and formally classified it as a terrorist organization.

Oseguera’s reported ing could significantly reshape the balance of power among criminal groups in Mexico, potentially triggering internal struggles or retaliatory violence as rival factions seek to expand their control.
