Former Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he made a “bad decision” in accepting the role, taking full responsibility for his 39-day spell at the Premier League club. The Australian manager, 60, was appointed in September following Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure but was sacked after losing six of his eight games in charge.
Speaking on the Overlap podcast, Postecoglou reflected on his decision, citing his eagerness to return to management just three months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur as a key factor. “There’s no point me blaming it on ‘I didn’t get time’ or anything,” he said. “I should never have gone in there. That was on me. That was a bad decision by me to go in there. I’ve got to take ownership of that.”
He added that joining Forest so soon after Tottenham, and attempting to implement his ods at a club used to doing things differently, contributed to the short tenure. “It’s no-one else’s fault,” he emphasized.
Postecoglou remains without a club and has ruled out returning to Celtic, where he enjoyed a successful two-year stint from 2021 to 2023. “I loved Celtic, it’s a wonderful football club,” he said. “If I was younger, I probably would have stayed there longer… In terms of going back, I don’t go back. I just don’t think that’s kind of been my career.”
The manager concluded that his next step will involve a new challenge, somewhere he can “make an impact and win things,” while maintaining his affection for Celtic.
