Ondo Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Poisoning of Three Year Old Boy

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Nafisat Lateef for allegedly poisoning a three year old boy in the Omifon community of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state. The arrest followed a report made by the child mother who is said to be a tenant of the suspect.

The state Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday. He disclosed that the suspect who is about forty years old is the landlady of the victim family and allegedly committed the act after a disagreement with the child mother identified as Rofiat.

According to the police the incident occurred on Tuesday 4th February 2026 at about eight thirty in the morning. The suspect allegedly gave the child identified as Abdulrasheed a liquid substance believed to be poisonous following the earlier argument with the child mother.

DSP Jimoh stated that shortly after the child consumed the substance he began vomiting which raised immediate alarm in the household. The child was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where he received prompt medical attention and was ilised.

He added that police detectives swung into action immediately after the report was made. Through a swift intelligence led operation officers arrested the suspect and recovered the liquid substance suspected to be poison as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements to investigators. He also assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the nature of the substance administered to the child.

The Ondo State Police Command stated that the case would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. The command also reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and urged residents to report disputes early before they escalate into criminal acts.
