The Nigerian Army has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of popular blogger and social media influencer Justice Mark Chibere, widely known as Justice Crack.
In an official statement signed by Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Army said the arrest followed a social media post made by the influencer highlighting complaints from some solrs regarding their feeding and welfare.
According to the statement, the Army launched an investigation into the matter over a possible breach of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and the alleged spread of misinformation. Preliminary findings, however, indicated that Justice Chibere had engaged in conversations with the solrs that allegedly encouraged discontent and acts of subversion within the military.
The Army expressed concern over what it described as attempts by civilians to influence serving personnel in ways that could undermine discipline and national security. It stressed that such actions carry serious implications for the ility and integrity of the armed forces.
“As part of the investigation, Justice Chibere was arrested alongside the solrs involved,” the statement noted. While the solrs remain in military custody, the blogger has been handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to operating within the rule of law and maintaining national security. It also assured the public of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served.
The development has sparked discussions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing varied opinions on the balance between free expression and national security.
