NDLEA Arrests 93 Year Old Man Doctor Others in Nationwide Drug Crackdown

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 93 year old man and a 69 year old medical doctor among several suspects during a coordinated nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking networks.

According to the agency spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the operations were intelligence led and executed across multiple states, leading to significant seizures and arrests.

In Abia State, a nonagenarian identified as Friday Ahukanna Chigbu was arrested at his residence, where operatives recovered 7.7 kilograms of skunk. He reportedly admitted to long term drug use before venturing into trafficking.

At the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, NDLEA officers apprehended an Ivorian national, Gohouri Michael, with 1.49 kilograms of . A follow up operation led to the arrest of a 69 year old doctor, Chudi Daniel Ofomata, in Ogun State, where additional drugs were recovered.

Further operations in Imo State resulted in the arrest of a female suspect with 56.2 kilograms of skunk, while in Niger State, a couple was arrested with 118 kilograms of the substance in their home.

In Borno State, operatives intercepted large quantities of Rohypnol, codeine syrup, and injections, leading to another arrest. Meanwhile, in Lagos State, officers seized 15 kilograms of cannabis known as Loud from a commercial bus and recovered 26,800 bottles of codeine syrup in a separate operation.

A raid in Abuja led to the arrest of eight suspects and seizure of over 11 kilograms of skunk. In Edo State, two trucks carrying a combined 7,245 kilograms of skunk were intercepted, with five suspects taken into custody.

Chairman of the agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts, noting that the War Against Drug Abuse campaign continues nationwide to educate communities and curb substance abuse.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug cartels and reducing the spread of illicit substances across the country.
