Leprosy Patients in Niger State Receive Motorised Beds to Improve Treatment

Leprosy patients receiving treatment in Niger State have received 25 electronic motorised hospital beds as part of efforts to improve their comfort and support faster recovery.

The donation was made on Thursday by the Leprosy Mission Nigeria at the Niger State Leprosy Hospital. In addition to the beds the organisation also donated 25 bed sheets 25 pillows and 25 pillow cases to support patient care at the facility.

Speaking during the presentation the Operations Manager of the Leprosy Mission Nigeria Pius Ogbu said the items were received through the support of the Leprosy Mission Switzerland. He explained that the motorised beds would significantly improve the comfort of patients undergoing treatment.

According to him the electronic beds allow patients to easily adjust their sleeping positions without assistance which can help them rest better and recover faster. He added that quality sleep plays an important role in the healing process particularly for patients managing long term health conditions.

Ogbu noted that the Leprosy Mission Nigeria has remained active in Niger State providing free treatment rehabilitation services and vocational training for individuals affected by leprosy. He also stated that the organisation continues to work towards eliminating stigma associated with the disease while supporting patients with orthopaedic devices and empowerment programmes.

In his remarks the Niger State Commissioner for Health Dr Murtala Bagana appreciated the organisation for the support. He said the state government under Governor Mohammed Bago is committed to improving healthcare services especially for people living with tropical diseases.

Bagana assured that the government would complement the efforts of the Leprosy Mission Nigeria by upgrading the Leprosy Hospital and providing additional medical supplies required for proper patient care. He also revealed that a medical consultant would soon be posted to the hospital to strengthen treatment services.

One of the beneficiaries David Felix who is from Ebonyi State expressed gratitude for the donation. Felix who lost his left leg due to an ulcer said the adjule bed would make life easier for him as he can now adjust his position without needing assistance from hospital staff.
