Kenya Launches Nationwide Flood Response Initiative

Kenya government introduced a comprehensive national flood response program on January 29 2026 following extensive damage caused by seasonal flooding across multiple regions. Heavy rainfall displaced thousands of residents destroyed homes and disrupted transport networks particularly in low lying and river basin areas. Authorities said the new initiative is designed to improve coordination between emergency services local governments and humanitarian partners.

The program focuses on early warning systems rapid deployment of relief supplies and temporary shelter for affected communities. Officials also emphasized long term measures including improved drainage infrastructure and land use planning to reduce future risks.
