An international law enforcement initiative led by INTERPOL has resulted in more than 650 arrests across 16 African countries as authorities intensified efforts to dismantle online scam networks. The coordinated effort, known as Operation Red Card 2.0, targeted cybercriminal groups accused of orchestrating fraud schemes that affected victims worldwide.

According to INTERPOL, the operation focused on identifying and disrupting networks involved in financial scams, phishing campaigns, and other forms of digital deception. Law enforcement agencies collaborated across borders, sharing intelligence and conducting synchronized raids to apprehend suspects and seize electronic devices.

Officials reported that millions of dollars in suspected illicit proceeds were recovered during the crackdown. Authorities also confiscated servers, mobile phones, and bank documents believed to be linked to fraudulent activities.

Cybercrime has become an increasing concern across the continent and beyond, with sophisticated syndicates exploiting digital platforms to reach victims in multiple jurisdictions. Experts say coordinated operations are essential in addressing the transnational nature of such crimes.

Participating countries praised the joint approach, noting that collaboration enhances investigative capacity and deters criminal enterprises that often operate across borders. INTERPOL emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships and capacity building to prevent future offenses.

The arrests are expected to lead to prosecutions in various national courts. Legal proceedings may vary depending on local laws and evidentiary standards.

Analysts note that large scale operations can disrupt elished networks but warn that cybercriminal groups often adapt quickly. Continued vigilance and technological investment are considered critical in maintaining momentum against digital fraud.

Operation Red Card 2.0 highlights the growing emphasis on international cooperation in combating online crime. Authorities say further initiatives are planned to address evolving threats in the cyber domain.
