The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, has urged all agencies under the ministry to remain focused on their core responsibilities and not allow political activities associated with the 2026 election year to distract them.

Tunji-Ojo gave the charge on Saturday in Abuja at the conclusion of the 2026 Sectoral Performance Review Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Interior. While commending agencies for their performance, he warned against complacency, stressing that Nigerians expect effective service delivery regardless of the political climate.

“I beg you, this is 2026. Yes, you are professionals. This is an election year. Please don’t be distracted. Nigerians must get the service they need to get. We must never take our eyes off the ball,” he said.

The minister emphasized collective responsibility and peer support within the ministry, insisting that officials must work together to achieve results. “Our mantra is one for all, all for one. We are here to protect one another and ensure that we deliver. This is not a game of buck passing,” he added.

Tunji Ojo directed the Nigeria Immigration Service to strengthen border control and tackle irregular migration, while urging the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to safeguard critical national assets. He also called on the Federal Fire Service to improve emergency response and rescue operations nationwide and instructed the Nigerian Correctional Service to intensify rehabilitation programs to reduce reoffending among inmates.

He commended the professionalism of agency heads and personnel, noting improvements in immigration processes, border management, emergency services, and correctional administration. Tunji Ojo urged continued commitment to delivering results and justifying the confidence placed in the ministry by the President and Nigerians, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
