The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday presented certificates of return to the newly re elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, and his Vice, Mohammed Nadabo, alongside other winners of the February 21 Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Presenting the certificates at the commission office in Abuja, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Malam Aminu Idris, described the event as the formal conclusion of a successful and transparent electoral process.

According to Idris, the presentation covered six area council chairmen and their deputies, as well as 62 councillors who emerged victorious across the FCT. He congratulated the winners and urged them to see their mandates as a call to service.

“Your election is a testament to the trust reposed in you by the people. I encourage you to embrace your mandate with a strong sense of duty and work tirelessly to address the needs of your constituents,” he said.

Idris also commended stakeholders including the Nigeria Police Force and various political parties for contributing to a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Speaking after receiving his certificate, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to God and the electorate, describing the presentation as the final stage of the election cycle. He pledged to sustain his development agenda, revealing that 80 percent of projects and programmes under his administration would be concentrated in rural communities.

He noted that infrastructure distribution would reflect the peculiar needs of different wards, citing Kabusa and Garki as areas requiring specific attention due to their size and population.

Vice Chairman elect Mohammed Nadabo assured residents of an open door and people focused administration, promising responsive governance based on available resources.

The newly elected officials are expected to be sworn in soon.
