Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has distributed fertilizers, farm inputs, and equipment to support dry-season farming across the state. The official launch took place on Thursday at the Fadama III facility of the Ministry of Agriculture in Gusau.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the inputs are critical for improving crop yields, reducing losses, and promoting sustainable farming practices. The distributed items include 3,920 bags of NPK fertiliser, 1,956 bags of Urea fertiliser, 3,920 litres of herbicide, 1,956 litres of insecticide, and 3,920 sachets of seed-dressing chemical.

In his remarks, Governor Lawal emphasized that farming is the backbone of the economy and reiterated his administration’s commitment to increasing agricultural productivity, improving food security, and enhancing the livelihoods of Zamfara residents.

“Distribution of these fertilizers, inputs, and farm equipment is to bolster dry-season farming across the nation, including Zamfara State,” he said. Lawal also credited the NG-CARES programme for providing the foundation to achieve significant milestones in agriculture, noting that past interventions have benefited tens of thousands of smallholder farmers with improved seeds, agrochemicals, and agronomic guidance.

The governor urged farmers to use the inputs wisely and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen security, ensure sustainable food production, and reduce reliance on imports. He also acknowledged the support of development partners and the Federal Government through the NG-CARES programme, emphasizing its role in improving yields, incomes, and food security.

Governor Lawal concluded by stressing the importance of collaboration to implement developmental policies and programmes in the agricultural sector for the overall progress of Zamfara State.
