Google has rolled out one of the largest updates to Google Photos in years, adding six new tools. Many of the new features use its image and video model called “Nano Banana,” the company said.

Yael Marzan, Google Photos’ Senior Director of Product Management, wrote in a blog post that the app already has many AI tools, like editing images from a text prompt and asking questions about photos. Now the team is improving those tools and adding new ones.

One new tool is called “Help Me Edit.” Users type a short prompt describing the ce they want, and the app makes the edit. Marzan gave examples such as removing sunglasses, opening closed eyes, or adding a smile. She said “Nano Banana” can make these edits look natural.

Another existing tool, “Ask Photos,” is being brought to iPhones. The move comes with a refreshed photo editor inside the app. Users will be able to edit by voice, search for older pictures, and use other smart features. Google said the iOS launch will reach over 100 countries in the next few days and will support 17 languages.

Overall, the update expands Google Photos’ AI editing and search tools and aims to make them easier to use across more devices and languages.
