Fusengbuwa Ruling House Dismisses KWAM 1’s Protest Over Awujale Selection

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebuland has strongly rejected a protest letter written by popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the ongoing selection process of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

In the letter dated January 8, 2026, and written by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM 1 alleged that the ruling house had introduced screening and nomination directives unknown to the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State. He claimed the directives were designed to deliberately disenfranchise him from contesting for the revered stool.

Reacting on Sunday, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the allegations as “arrant nonsense,” describing the protest as illogical and misguided. Yusuf questioned how a ruling house with over 20,000 members could allow unrestricted participation without an organised screening process, insisting that the family’s actions were reasonable and lawful.

He added that the family had scheduled Monday for the nomination meeting of aspirants, noting that the process had already attracted more than 60 contenders, reflecting widespread interest in the vacant stool.

The ruling house further maintained that KWAM 1 is not a bona fide member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and is therefore not qualified to participate in the selection exercise. It will be recalled that the Fuji star had earlier approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode seeking an injunction to halt the process, but the court declined the request. The suit was later withdrawn.

The selection process was briefly suspended and restarted following the intervention of the Ogun State Government. However, tensions remain high as the late Oba Sikiru Adetona’s successor is expected to emerge months after his death in July last year, which ended a historic 65-year reign.

As of press time, the Ogun State Government had yet to officially respond to the latest developments surrounding the controversy.
