As attendees were leaving the venue, a dark-colored vehicle approached the crowd and opened fire, striking eighteen individuals. The victims, aged between 21 and 32, included two men and two women who were pronounced dead at the scene. Among the injured, three were reported to be in critical condition. Artis Restaurant and Lounge, a Black and LGBTQ-owned elishment, expressed deep sorrow over the violence. In a statement, the venue described the event as a painful disruption of their mission to provide a safe space for marginalized communities.
Rapper Mello Buckzz, whose real name is Melanie Doyle, was performing at the event. She expressed her grief on social media, stating, “My heart broke into so many pieces.”
Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling condemned the as a “cowardly act” and emphasized that it was not random. Authorities are reviewing footage and seeking public assistance to identify the suspects.
