North Carolina attorney Patrick Mincey announced on Instagram that his firm is representing Boltinhouse “in connection with anticipated legal action,” declaring that she was “targeted because of her Christian faith and conservative political views.” Mincey characterized the dethroning as “wrongful and unjustified” and vowed that Boltinhouse “will not be canceled.” His announcement comes after the former titleholder gave an interview to the Carolina Journal in which she claimed her crown was “ripped” from her due to her beliefs, though she indicated a nondisclosure agreement limits what she can publicly discuss about the circumstances. Requests for comment from Boltinhouse, her attorney, Miss USA, and the state pageant organizer A Blaize Productions were not immediately returned.
Boltinhouse lost her title on August 5 when Thom Brodeur, chairman and CEO of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, announced the decision in a strongly worded statement. Brodeur did not detail specific incidents but emphasized that the removal stemmed from “conduct over an extended period of time” rather than a single moment. He wrote that the Miss USA organization “does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity, whoever they are.” His statement framed the title as more than mere recognition, calling it “a position of trust extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public.” Runner up Myla Hadley was elevated to the Miss North Carolina USA title following the decision.
A Blaize Productions, which manages preliminary competitions for Miss USA in North Carolina and several other states, issued its own statement saying the decision to remove Boltinhouse “was not made lightly.” According to the company, the action “followed a thorough review of recently surfaced information and was based on the totality of the circumstances and our responsibility to preserve the integrity of the Miss North Carolina USA title and the values of our organization.” Neither organization has publicly disclosed what specific conduct prompted the removal, leaving considerable ambiguity about the precise allegations at the center of the controversy. Boltinhouse was scheduled to compete at the Miss USA national competition, set for August 24 through 27, before losing her state title.
When asked by the Carolina Journal whether her support for President Donald Trump might have contributed to the decision, Boltinhouse responded, “I don’t know.” Her reluctance to elaborate appears connected to the nondisclosure agreement she referenced, which may complicate her ability to defend herself publicly while also potentially limiting the pageant organization’s ability to share details about their reasoning.
