The Federal Government FG has ordered an immediate investigation following a fire outbreak at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. The incident, which occurred on Monday, prompted rapid response from the National Fire Service and other emergency agencies to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of workers and visitors.

Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, confirmed the fire and emphasized that the government is taking the matter seriously. She stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire, assess damages, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Officials reported that all staff and visitors were safely evacuated, and there were no immediate reports of casualties. The Secretariat houses several government offices, making the swift response crucial to minimize operational disruption and potential loss of records.

The FG directed relevant ministries and agencies to cooperate fully with investigators and ensure a comprehensive report is submitted within a stipulated timeframe. The fire has raised concerns about the state of infrastructure and emergency preparedness in public institutions, prompting calls for stricter safety protocols and regular audits.

Security and safety experts have also urged the government to invest in modern firefighting equipment, training, and emergency drills to protect both personnel and vital government assets.

As investigations continue, authorities have assured the public that all necessary steps will be taken to restore the Secretariat to full functionality while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
