Europe Vows United Response as Trump Threatens Tariffs Over Greenland

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned that Europe’s response to threats from U.S. President Donald Trump will be “unflinching, united, and proportional,” as she expressed firm solidarity with Greenland and Denmark.

Speaking on Tuesday, von der Leyen emphasized that Europe would stand together in the face of pressure, particularly over issues of sovereignty and international law.

Her remarks followed comments made by Trump on Saturday, in which he threatened to impose a 10 percent import tax starting in February on goods from eight European countries. The proposed tariffs were described as retaliation for European opposition to U.S. control of Greenland.

It Greenland is a semiautonomous territory under the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark is both a member of the European Union and a key ally of the United States through NATO, adding to the geopolitical sensitivity of the dispute.

The standoff highlights growing tensions between Washington and European leaders over territorial ambition, trade measures, and the future of transatlantic relations.

  • Honestly, Trumps obsession with Greenland is bizarre. Is he just looking for distractions from real issues? 🤔 #StayFocusedEurope

  • I cant believe Trump is causing drama over Greenland. Like, seriously? Cant we focus on more important issues?
