Political appointees in the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo have commenced a three-day orientation and capacity-building retreat, aimed at enhancing governance, collaboration, and performance across Edo State ministries, departments, and agencies.

The retreat, held in Udomi, Esan Central local government area, is the first of its kind since Governor Okpebholo assumed office in November 2024. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the governor said the event was not a social gathering but a strategic engagement designed to strengthen service delivery and deepen understanding of governance processes.

Governor Okpebholo urged civil and public service leaders to embrace discipline, teamwork, and measurable results, emphasizing that his administration operates strictly on performance and accountability. “Good governance is teamwork, and no single appointee or agency can succeed in isolation. We must work together to deliver results for the Edo people,” he said.

He warned against using public office for personal enrichment, insisting that service must remain the guiding principle of leadership. “Every naira we spend must deliver value, and every policy must produce measurable results. Your performance will be measured. Tangible results and excellence will now determine your status in this administration,” the governor stated.

Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, explained that the retreat embos the philosophy “Edo is building Edo,” highlighting that state transformation must be driven by the Edo people themselves.

The three-day retreat will feature orientation sessions, strategic leadership training, and workshops aimed at improving collaboration, accountability, and effective governance across all MDAs in the state.
