Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has ushered in a transformative era for the genre with the release of his fifth studio album, “5ive,” on April 18, 2025. This 17-track masterpiece showcases a harmonious blend of African rhythms and global influences, reflecting Davido’s personal growth and the evolving landscape of Afrobeats.

The album features an impressive lineup of collaborations, including international artists such as Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, and Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea. Nigerian talents like Omah Lay, Odumodublvck, and Chike also contribute, highlighting the genre’s rich diversity and global appeal. Producers like Marvey Musique, 1da Banton, DJ Maphorisa, and Tempoe have infused the album with innovative sounds, bridging traditional Afrobeats with contemporary styles.

“5ive” has been supported by several singles that have resonated with aunces worldwide. “Awuke,” featuring YG Marley, released on October 31, 2024, blends Afrobeats with reggae influences, while “Funds,” featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, released on December 6, 2024, samples Brenda Fassie’s iconic 1997 hit “Vuli Ndlela,” celebrating African musical heritage. “Be There Still,” released on March 14, 2025, is a heartfelt ballad that showcases Davido’s emotional depth. The latest single, “Offa Me,” featuring Victoria Monét, released on April 17, 2025, debuted at number two on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart and number five on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart, marking a significant milestone for the genre.

The album’s release has been met with critical acclaim, with “5ive” topping Apple Music charts in 16 countries, including Nigeria and Sierra Leone. This achievement underscores the global resonance of Afrobeats and Davido’s pivotal role in its expansion. Industry experts note that “5ive” not only solidifies Davido’s status as a leading figure in Afrobeats but also sets a new standard for the genre’s international reach and influence.

Davido’s journey to “5ive” has been marked by personal and professional milestones. Following the tragic loss of his three-year-old son in 2022, Davido welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, bringing renewed clarity and purpose to his life and music. He describes “5ive” as a reflection of his journey, stating, “This album is a reflection of my journey—where I’ve been and where I’m going.” The album’s title, “5ive,” symbolizes hope, grace, ce, and growth, encapsulating the transformative phase in both Davido’s life and the Afrobeats genre.

As Afrobeats continues to gain global prominence, “5ive” stands as a testament to the genre’s evolution and its capacity to resonate with diverse aunces. Davido’s innovative approach and collaborative spirit have not only propelled his career but have also played a significant role in elevating Afrobeats to new heights on the international stage.
