Nigerian superstar Davido has announced that he is taking an indefinite break from releasing new music, describing the decision as a “musical sabbatical” during a recent livestream with Davrel.
The award winning singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, told fans not to expect new songs from him in the near future, insisting that he is currently not under pressure to release fresh music in order to remain relevant.
Davido said his existing catalog continues to dominate nightlife playlists across clubs, suggesting that his influence in the music scene remains strong even without new releases.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break. If you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” he said.
Despite stepping back from recording new material, Davido expressed enthusiasm for emerging entertainment trends in Nigeria, particularly the growing celebrity boxing scene.
He described the development as positive and said it reflects the expanding creativity within the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” he added.
The comment comes as Nigeria’s entertainment and sports crossover events continue to gain popularity among fans and online aunces.
Recently, streamer Carter Efe made headlines after defeating singer Portable in a celebrity boxing event, becoming the latest champion in the growing tournament series.
Following his loss, Portable publicly accused some colleagues in the music industry of lacking support for him, claiming he is often disliked within the entertainment space.
Davido’s announcement has sparked mixed reactions from fans, with many expressing surprise while others debate whether the break signals a strategic pause or a longer absence from the studio.
