Chinyere Nnenna Igwegbe has been inaugurated as the 19th President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), promising to position women engineers at the forefront of innovation, economic growth, and national development. The ceremony took place at the Nigerian Society of Engineers headquarters in Abuja and was attended by engineering leaders, industry captains, and policymakers.

In her inaugural address, Igwegbe emphasized a focus on research, development, and turning innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions. She highlighted priority sectors including energy sustainability, environmental resilience, digital transformation, infrastructure, and climate adaptation. The new president also pledged to expand STEM outreach for girls, including robotics competitions for secondary school and university students, while institutionalizing a robust framework to track APWEN’s impact on communities.

Industry leaders including Ali Rabiu, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and Elozino Olaniyan, Managing Director of Midwestern Oil and Gas, praised the focus on gender inclusion, noting that women remain underrepresented in engineering and technology roles. APWEN, founded over four decades ago, continues to champion mentorship, professional excellence, and opportunities for women and girls in STEM, reinforcing their role in Nigeria’s development.
