Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane has insisted the club remains an attractive destination for top coaches despite a turbulent season marked by frequent managerial ces.
McFarlane is currently in his second spell as caretaker boss following the sacking of Liam Rosenior on April 22. Rosenior’s stint lasted just over three months after he replaced Enzo Maresca, whose tenure ended earlier in the year amid concerns over limited backing from the club’s hierarchy.
Since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in 2022, Chelsea FC have struggled to maintain ility in the dugout. The club has now had multiple managerial ces in recent years, raising concerns about its long term direction and appeal to elite coaches.
Despite this, McFarlane remains confident that Chelsea’s global stature and resources continue to make it a desirable job. He pointed to the club’s rich history, world class players, and top level training facilities as key attractions for any prospective manager.
Chelsea have already reached the final of the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester City on May 16, offering a chance to end the season on a high note. However, their league form remains a concern, with the team currently sitting eighth in the Premier League standings.
The Blues are reportedly considering several candidates for the permanent role, including Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Xabi Alonso. Their chances of attracting a top manager may depend on whether they secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Off the pitch, McFarlane dismissed concerns about dressing room unrest, highlighting recent bonding moments among players such as Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella, and Joao Pedro as evidence of strong team unity.
As the season nears its conclusion, Chelsea will aim to finish strongly and restore confidence both on and off the field.
