The Central Bank of Nigeria has issued a fresh warning to the public over a growing wave of fraudulent messages and cyber attempts aimed at compromising personal bank accounts. The alert comes amid increasing reports of scams carried out through emails, text messages, and deceptive online content falsely claiming to be from the apex bank.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, explained that these fraudulent communications are carefully designed to mislead unsuspecting individuals. According to her, the messages often encourage recipients to click harmful links or provide sensitive financial information under false pretenses.

She noted that some of the fake messages also spread misleading claims about the bank’s leadership, licensing activities, and policy decisions, creating confusion among the public. The bank stressed that it does not request personal or financial details through unofficial channels.

The Central Bank urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with suious links or unverified platforms. It emphasized that its official website remains the only trusted online source for accurate information and updates regarding its operations.

Members of the public were also advised to verify any communication attributed to the bank through recognized media outlets or directly via its official channels. The institution encouraged individuals to promptly report any suspected scams to law enforcement agencies to help curb the spread of cybercrime.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the financial system, the Central Bank stated that it is actively strengthening its cybersecurity measures in collaboration with relevant authorities. These efforts are aimed at protecting citizens from digital fraud and ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s banking system.
