Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from French Open Due to Wrist Injury

Two time reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will miss this year’s French Open as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The Spanish star confirmed he will also skip the Italian Open, opting for caution as he focuses on recovery. In a statement shared on social media, Alcaraz described the situation as difficult but expressed confidence in making a strong return.

The injury occurred during his opening match at the Barcelona Open, where he secured victory against Otto Virtanen before withdrawing from the competition. He had already pulled out of the Madrid Open earlier in April, raising doubts about his participation in the clay court season.

At just 22, Alcaraz has built an extraordinary résumé, recently completing a career Grand Slam with his victory at the Australian Open. He has also enjoyed a strong season, posting an impressive win loss record and claiming a title in Doha.

Currently ranked world number two, Alcaraz lost the top spot after falling to Jannik Sinner in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters.

A dominant force on clay, Alcaraz captured back to back titles at Roland Garros in 2024 and 2025, including a dramatic victory last year where he saved multiple championship points.

His absence from this year’s tournament leaves a significant gap in the field and reshapes the competition as rivals look to capitalize on the opportunity.
