Cardi B Exonerated from Assault Claims in $24 Million Lawsuit

A California jury has unanimously acquitted pop star Cardi B of assault allegations in a $24 million civil lawsuit brought by former security guard Emani Ellis. The case originated from a 2018 incident outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office, where Ellis claimed Cardi B physically ed her, spat on her, and used racial slurs.

Both women are Black. Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, testified that she never laid a hand on Ellis but did curse at her when Ellis attempted to film her during a private appointment while she was pregnant and had not publicly revealed her pregnancy.

The jury, comprised of 12 members, deliberated for less than an hour before reaching a unanimous decision in favor of Cardi B. Following the verdict, the rapper expressed her relief and maintained her innocence, stating, “I did not touch that woman, I did not lay my hands on that girl.” She also warned that future frivolous lawsuits against her would be met with countersuits.

Emani Ellis, while disappointed with the outcome, emphasized the significance of her experience being recognized, stating, “I don’t want it to be overlooked.” The trial garnered considerable media attention, with Cardi B’s courtroom appearances trending on social media.

The case underscores the challenges celebrities face in legal disputes, especially regarding privacy rights during public appearances. This high-profile lawsuit reflects broader issues related to celebrity culture and legal accountability, while Cardi B’s victory may discourage similar claims in the future.
