Bode George, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former military governor of Ondo State, has pushed back against comments reportedly made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, suggesting that the PDP should not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview, George expressed disbelief over Wike’s alleged proposal, which claimed that the party’s internal disputes could only be resolved if it agreed to stay out of the next presidential contest.

Reacting to the idea, George said, “My young son, Wike, he said he will be quiet on the day that PDP does not present a candidate for presidency. I said what the heck is he saying. Is that democracy? Why should Wike be talking like that”

George questioned the logic behind such a stance, arguing that it goes against the core values of democracy and the purpose of a political party. He emphasized that the PDP must remain active and competitive, especially in a crucial election like that of 2027.
