Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared Tuesday, February 3, a work-free day for civil servants in both the public and private sectors to commemorate the state’s golden jubilee anniversary. The announcement is part of activities lined up to celebrate 50 years of Bauchi State’s creation and its journey so far.

The declaration was contained in a press release issued by the governor’s media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, on Tuesday. According to the statement, the governor described the golden jubilee as a significant milestone that offers an opportunity to reflect on Bauchi State’s history, celebrate achievements recorded over the decades, and renew collective commitment to development, peace, and good governance.

Governor Mohammed urged residents of the state to use the occasion to pray for sustained peace, unity, progress, and prosperity. He noted that the anniversary should not only be a time for celebration but also a moment of sober reflection on the responsibilities of government and citizens toward building a better future for the state.

As part of the jubilee activities, the governor directed all residents to plant at least one tree in their communities. This initiative, he explained, is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and combating desertification, a major challenge affecting Bauchi State and other parts of northern Nigeria.

The governor further emphasized the need for responsible celebration, urging residents to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions that could disrupt public order. He stressed that the success of the golden jubilee celebration depends on collective responsibility and cooperation among all citizens.

While declaring the work-free day, Governor Mohammed clarified that essential services would be exempted to ensure the continued functioning of critical sectors. He also invited all citizens, groups, and stakeholders to actively participate in the golden jubilee activities and work together to make the celebration memorable and impactful.
