The Asian Development Bank approved funding worth 149 million dollars on January 28 2026 to support inclusive growth projects in Laos, focusing on agriculture health care and climate resilience. The approval forms part of the bank’s broader effort to strengthen livelihoods and reduce poverty in developing economies across Southeast Asia.

ADB officials said the financing package will support rural development programs aimed at improving agricultural productivity and food security. Investments will also target health systems by expanding access to basic medical services in underserved communities particularly in remote and rural areas.

A significant portion of the funding is directed toward climate resilience initiatives designed to help Laos adapt to increasing risks from floods droughts and extreme weather. Projects include strengthening infrastructure improving water management and supporting climate smart farming practices.

The Lao government welcomed the approval saying the funds would contribute to sustainable economic growth and social development. Officials emphasized that the projects align with national development priorities and long term poverty reduction goals.

ADB representatives noted that inclusive growth remains a central pillar of the bank’s strategy in the region especially as countries recover from economic shocks and address climate related challenges. Implementation of the projects is expected to begin later in 2026 with close monitoring to ensure transparency and impact.
