Following Arsenal’s 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, manager Mikel Arteta has openly discussed the club’s intentions to reinforce their squad with a new striker during the January transfer window. The match, highlighted by a comeback victory after falling behind to a goal from Son Heung-min, saw Arsenal claw back through a fortuitous deflection off Dominic Solanke and a decisive strike by Leandro Trossard.

Despite the win, which keeps Arsenal in the chase, four points adrift of leaders Liverpool (who have a game in hand), Arteta acknowledged the squad’s current limitations. The absence of key players Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries has left Arsenal with a thin ing lineup, with Kai Havertz leading the but supported by Trossard and Raheem Sterling, who underperformed in the match.

In a candid conversation with Rio Ferdinand post-match, Arteta expressed the urgency and strategy behind Arsenal’s transfer activities:

“We are going to try, for sure. We are actively looking. I think we have lost two very, very important players. We have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. We will try, but let’s see who we can get.”

This statement underscores Arsenal’s proactive approach in the transfer market, aiming to bolster their squad amidst a grueling schedule and significant injuries. Arteta’s remarks provide clarity on the club’s transfer strategy, focusing on immediate needs to sustain their title challenge in the Premier League.
