The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Abia State chapter, has formally endorsed Governor Alex Otti for re-election in the 2027 general election, citing his performance, purposeful leadership, and commitment to restoring integrity and efficiency across the state.

The endorsement was made public in a communiqué signed by ALGON chairman Chinedum Ekeke in Umuahia on Friday. The group expressed confidence in Otti’s administration, noting significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and public sector management. ALGON highlighted the governor’s efforts in clearing salary backlogs, ensuring prompt payment of pensions and salaries, and prudent resource management across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The statement also addressed recent political remarks by three former governors, led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who declared that Otti would not secure a second term. ALGON opposed these declarations, emphasizing that the future of the state rests with its citizens, who must freely determine leadership through credible democratic processes.

“Since the assumption of office, Governor Alex Otti’s administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to good governance, fiscal responsibility, and service delivery,” the communiqué read. “Where citizens were once hesitant to openly identify with Abia State due to years of institutional decline, there is now renewed pride among Abians at home and in the diaspora, reflecting restored confidence in the state’s leadership and public image.”

ALGON called on political actors to engage constructively by presenting policies and alternative visions that promote unity and development rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric. The group reiterated that public discourse must be guided by facts, and that leadership is determined by performance and the electorate’s freely expressed will.

By endorsing Otti, ALGON signals strong grassroots support for the governor’s re-election bid, highlighting tangible improvements in governance and a renewed sense of public confidence in Abia State.
