Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has declared that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in office in 2027, citing improved funding for state projects and economic ilization as key factors that will drive voter support. Speaking during a television interview on Tuesday, Eno presented a bullish assessment of the current administration’s performance and its prospects for electoral success three years from now. The governor’s confident prediction comes amid ongoing national debates about the direction of economic reforms and their impact on ordinary Nigerians.
Eno credited Tinubu with making substantial funding available to state governments, enabling ambitious infrastructure projects across the country. Pointing to achievements in his own state, the governor highlighted the construction of 1,300 kilometers of roads, 458 compassionate homes for vulnerable citizens, and support programs benefiting 12,000 elderly residents. He also cited the elishment of hospitals in all 31 local government areas and the construction of modern, solar powered schools as evidence of what federal support has made possible at the state level.
On the economic front, Eno argued that Tinubu deserves credit for ilizing the naira against the dollar and building up Nigeria’s foreign reserves. The governor urged Nigerians to examine the administration’s tax reform proposals and their potential benefits for ordinary citizens, suggesting these policy initiatives demonstrate a commitment to sustainable economic management. According to Eno, these achievements provide compelling reasons for both Akwa Ibom residents and Nigerians nationwide to give the president another term to complete his agenda.
When asked directly whether he would actively campaign for Tinubu’s reelection, the governor responded with religious conviction and political confidence. Describing himself as an ardent believer in divine providence, Eno asserted that Akwa Ibom State stands firmly behind both Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress. He pointed to recent primary election results showing strong turnout, with nearly 400,000 votes for the president and 392,000 for himself, as evidence of the party’s grassroots strength in the state.
Eno painted a picture of overwhelming APC dominance in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, noting that all senators from the state belong to the ruling party alongside 24 of 26 state assembly members. He emphasized that 30 out of 31 local government chairmen are APC members, as are the vast majority of councillors across the state. This extensive party infrastructure, according to the governor, represents a formidable political machine that opposition parties will struggle to overcome in future elections.
Looking ahead to 2027, Eno dismissed concerns about potential challenges from rival parties, expressing confidence in the ruling party’s organizational capacity and popular support. While acknowledging respect for political competitors and welcoming electoral choice as healthy for democracy, the governor suggested that the APC’s deep roots in the state make a takeover by opposition forces highly unlikely. His remarks signal an early start to what promises to be an intensely contested presidential race, with incumbent supporters already framing the narrative around economic achievements and infrastructure development as the basis for electoral renewal.
