Afrobeats continues to make significant strides in the global music scene, with recent developments highlighting its expanding influence and the emergence of new talent.

In April 2025, Nigerian-American artist Davido released his fifth studio album, “5ive,” marking a new chapter in his musical journey. The 17-track album features collaborations with international artists such as Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Omah Lay, and Victony. The album’s creation involved curating 80 initial tracks, with input from family and friends to select the final lineup. This release follows the tragic loss of his three-year-old son in 2022 and the subsequent birth of twins, bringing a renewed focus on family and positive energy in his music. (apnews.com)

In the same month, Nigerian rapper Olamide and Afrobeats star Wizkid teamed up for the single “Kai!” released on April 28, 2025. The track, characterized by its feel-good and dance-ready Afrobeats sound, coincided with the announcement of Olamide’s eleventh studio album, “Olamidé,” set for release on June 3, 2025. The song debuted at number nine on Nigeria’s Top 100 chart and reached number ten on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. (en.wikipedia.org)

South African artist Tyla achieved a significant milestone with her hit single “Water,” which surpassed one billion streams on Spotify in February 2025. This achievement underscores the growing global appeal of Afrobeats and its artists. (afrobeatsmagazine.com)

It also won Album of the Year at the Trace Awards & Festival 2025. (en.wikipedia.org)

The genre’s influence reached new heights in June 2024 when Burna Boy headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, a first for an Afrobeats artist. This performance, along with Ayra Starr’s appearance on the same stage, signifies Afrobeats’ growing prominence in the global music industry. (bbc.com)

Additionally, in October 2023, the launch of Afrobeats Africa, a new West African record label headquartered in Busumbala, The Gambia, marked a significant development in the music industry. This initiative aims to provide regional artists with enhanced exposure, revenue opportunities, and professional growth, further solidifying Afrobeats’ position in the global music landscape.
