The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council has announced plans to begin a two day clean up and enforcement exercise along the Lagos port corridors to improve trade facilitation and boost operational efficiency at the nation’s seaports.
The operation, scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2026, will be carried out through PEBEC’s Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee. The exercise is aimed at restoring order within the Apapa and Tin Can port corridors, which remain major maritime and logistics centres in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by the Director General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms to create a more transparent, efficient and investor friendly business environment.
PEBEC explained that the enforcement exercise would tackle several longstanding issues affecting port access roads. These include heavy traffic congestion, illegal checkpoints, indiscriminate parking of trucks, environmental degradation and other unregulated activities that continue to disrupt cargo movement and increase the cost of doing business.
The council noted that the operation is expected to improve traffic management and ease the movement of cargoes in and out of the ports. It added that businesses and port users would benefit from reduced delays and smoother logistics operations.
The exercise will also focus on improving environmental sanitation and public order across the port corridors through the removal of illegal structures and operational obstructions.
PEBEC further stated that the initiative would strengthen collaboration among security agencies and regulatory bos operating within the port environment.
Agencies expected to participate in the operation include the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, port terminal operators, unions and other security and regulatory agencies.
