The Dallas Cowboys have solidified their offensive line’s future by signing left guard Tyler Smith to a four-year, $96 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid guard in NFL history. Announced on September 13, 2025, the deal includes $81.2 million in guaranteed money and averages $24 million per year, surpassing the previous record held by Kansas City Chiefs’ guard Trey Smith.

At just 24 years old, Tyler Smith has been a pivotal player for the Cowboys since being drafted 24th overall from Tulsa in 2022. He has started 48 consecutive games, including all 17 in his rookie season at left tackle while Tyron Smith was injured. Over the past two seasons, he earned Pro Bowl honors and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2023.

This extension comes at a critical juncture for the Cowboys, especially following the offseason retirements of All-Pro right guard Zack Martin and left tackle Tyron Smith. Tyler Smith has now taken on the role of leader within the offensive line. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Smith’s performance, asserting, “I think he’s the best guard in football.”

Signing Tyler Smith to a long-term contract demonstrates the Cowboys’ commitment to maintaining a strong offensive line, which is essential for their overall offensive success. By locking in Smith, the Cowboys aim to create a solid foundation for the future, ensuring ility and continuity in their offensive line play as they navigate the team’s evolving dynamics.
