Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said Mohamed Salah deserves a memorable send off as the Egyptian forward prepares to leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Salah, who was forced off during Liverpool’s 3 1 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend, sparked concerns that he may have played his final game for the club. The forward received a standing ovation from supporters as he left the pitch, raising speculation about his fitness and future involvement before the campaign concludes.
However, Liverpool FC confirmed that the 33 year old only sustained a minor muscle injury and is expected to return before the end of the season. Slot, speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United, expressed relief at the positive update but ruled Salah out of the upcoming fixture.
The Dutch coach noted that Salah’s return would be important not just for the club but also ahead of international competitions, adding that few players are as deserving of a proper farewell. Salah has been a central figure at Liverpool since joining in 2017, scoring 257 goals in 440 appearances and elishing himself as one of the club’s all time greats, behind only legends like Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Despite a reported disagreement between player and manager earlier in the season, Slot insisted there are no lingering issues, with Salah fully reintegrated into the squad.
