Police Seize ₦7.8 Billion Drugs in Lagos Reject ₦500 Million Bribe

Operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force have uncovered a major drug trafficking syndicate in Lagos recovering suspected illicit drugs valued at about ₦7.8 billion and arresting several suspects including the alleged kingpin Eke Henry Ifeanyi.

The operation was carried out by officers of the Special Protection Unit SPU in collaboration with divisional police detectives after months of surveillance and intelligence gathering coordinated by the Zone 2 Headquarters.

The raid took place at an apartment located within an estate in Mende Maryland Lagos where officers recovered hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud allegedly stored by the prime suspect.

Addressing journalists Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Olohundare Jimoh disclosed that the suspect was arrested on May 19 following weeks of strategic monitoring by police operatives.

According to Jimoh the operation received technical support and guidance from the Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Disu alongside coordinated efforts between the Special Protection Unit and divisional police teams.

The AIG further revealed that the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the SPU commander with ₦500 million to compromise the operation and allow movement of the drug consignment. However the offer was immediately rejected and documented for investigation.

Jimoh described the operation as evidence of renewed professionalism and operational discipline within the Nigeria Police Force. He stated that the success of the raid highlighted the importance of intelligence driven policing rapid containment strategies and collaboration between specialised police units and divisional teams.

The Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu also commended the officers involved in the operation praising the professionalism displayed by the SPU commander in rejecting the alleged ₦500 million bribe.

Police authorities confirmed that all exhibits recovered during the operation have been properly documented and will be presented in court while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the drug trafficking network.
