Pep Guardiola Announces Manchester City Exit After Historic Era

Pep Guardiola has officially announced that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial eras in English football history.

The Spanish coach confirmed the decision on Friday, revealing that Sunday’s home match against Aston Villa will be his final game in charge of the Premier League champions. Although he will step down as manager, Guardiola is expected to remain connected to the City Football Group in the role of global ambassador.

Guardiola leaves Manchester City after a remarkable 10 year spell that transformed the club into one of the most dominant forces in world football. Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, he has guided the club to 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first ever UEFA Champions League triumph.

In an emotional farewell message released by the club, Guardiola reflected on his journey and the bond he built with supporters, players, and staff throughout his time in Manchester.

“What a time we have had together,” Guardiola said.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.

“Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”

Reports about Guardiola’s departure first surfaced earlier in the week, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager had initially refused to confirm his future. His announcement came shortly after Manchester City lost the Premier League title race to Arsenal.

Guardiola’s tenure at City has been widely praised for revolutionising English football with his ing philosophy, tactical innovations, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Under his leadership, the club achieved a historic Treble in 2023 and became the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously served as part of Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City, is widely expected to succeed him at the Etihad Stadium.
