The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has directed contractors handling road construction projects across the state to work round the clock to reduce the impact of the approaching rainy season on ongoing projects.
The governor gave the directive during an inspection tour of major road construction sites including Mechanic Road in Egor and Catholic Charismatic Renewal Road in Ugbiyoko. He was accompanied by the Special Adviser on Project Monitoring, Phoebe Williams Bello.
During the visit, the governor stressed the need for contractors to accelerate work so that significant progress can be achieved before heavy rainfall intensifies. According to him, the rainy season has already started, making it important for construction companies to speed up operations to avoid delays and disruptions.
He explained that projects like Mechanic Road are critical for residents and business owners in the area, noting that slow progress could make it difficult for people to access their homes and workplaces once heavy rains begin.
Okpebholo said the state government would intensify monitoring across construction sites to ensure contractors adhere strictly to agreed timelines and deliver the projects as scheduled. He added that road development remains a major priority for his administration.
According to him, continuous inspections will help ensure that contractors maintain quality standards while accelerating the pace of construction across Edo State.
Residents of Mechanic Road in Egor and Catholic Charismatic Renewal Road in Ugbiyoko came out in large numbers to welcome the governor during the inspection. Many expressed gratitude for what they described as long awaited government intervention after years of neglect.
One resident, Nosa Christopher, said the road had been in terrible condition for nearly two decades and had been abandoned by previous administrations. He thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise to rehabilitate the area.
Another landlord, Julius Adedoja, said he had previously considered selling his property due to the poor road condition but ced his mind after construction work began. According to him, the ongoing project has revived economic activities and attracted residents back to the community.
Other residents also commended the state government for prioritising infrastructure development and pledged their continued support for the administration.
