The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out critical rehabilitation on failed sections of the road. The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement on Tuesday.
The rehabilitation project will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes. The works are scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 11, and conclude on Wednesday, March 11, spanning four weeks.
To minimise traffic disruptions, the project will be executed in two phases. Phase one, targeting Abeokuta-bound traffic, will run from February 11 to March 4. Traffic from Lagos/Abule-Egba heading towards Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres from the active work zone. Rehabilitation will be carried out one lane at a time, with completed sections reopening as work progresses. Lagos-bound traffic will remain free-flowing during this period.
Phase two, covering Lagos-bound traffic, will take place from March 4 to March 11. Vehicles traveling from Sango Tollgate towards Lagos/Abule-Egba will be redirected through one half of the road, about 20 metres from the work zone, while Abeokuta-bound traffic will remain uninterrupted.
Osiyemi assured motorists that adequate traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project. He advised road users to plan their journeys, follow traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic officials on duty.
“The ministry appeals for the patience and understanding of the motoring public as these essential repairs are undertaken in the interest of all road users,” he added.
