The Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has dismissed reports alleging that ₦4.2bn was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor, describing the claim as a misinterpretation of capital provisions.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry clarified that the ₦4,247,816,006 referenced in circulating reports represents the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor for the 2026 fiscal year, not an amount solely designated for furniture and microphones.
According to the ministry, ₦4,077,816,006 out of the total capital vote is earmarked for the reconstruction of the Round House complex. The project involves structural upgrades, retrofitting works, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure for the six story facility, which houses more than 50 offices.
The ministry explained that the remaining ₦170m covers office equipment, furniture, fittings and other capital items required for the smooth functioning of the office.
It stressed that the figures had been incorrectly presented in some reports, leading to public misunderstanding about the purpose of the allocation. To promote transparency, the government said screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet were attached for public review.
The ministry urged stakeholders and media organisations to verify budget details through appropriate channels before publication to prevent the spread of inaccurate information. It reiterated that budgetary provisions in Lagos State are guided by due process, fiscal discipline and elished accounting standards.
Reaffirming its commitment to prudent management of public resources, the Lagos State Government expressed regret over any confusion caused by the classification of the budget items and assured residents that funds would be applied strictly in line with approved capital development plans.
