Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed excitement following the successful maiden test flight at Gusau International Airport, marking a major milestone in the history of Zamfara State.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the test flight took place on Sunday when a arr Challenger 605 operated by the Federal Government of Nigeria successfully landed at exactly 4:30 pm.

The aircraft, bearing registration number 5N FGZ, was deployed for a one off operational assessment of the airport’s readiness, particularly in preparation for upcoming VIP movements scheduled for next week. The spokesperson described the development as a historic breakthrough, noting that the state had gone more than three decades without a functional airport since its creation.

The test flight was conducted in full compliance with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations. Specifically, it adhered to Part 12.1.4.1 c, with all necessary approvals secured beforehand. The Zamfara State Government obtained a one off No Technical Objection clearance from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The operation was carried out under Visual Flight Rules, meaning it was executed between sunrise and sunset under clear weather conditions.

Governor Lawal described the successful landing as a landmark achievement for his administration, emphasizing its importance in opening up the state for investment, improved connectivity, and economic growth.

The development is expected to enhance transportation infrastructure in Zamfara and position the state for increased governmental and private sector activities in the near future.
