The Federal Government and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are advancing major infrastructure initiatives in the power and aviation sectors in 2026.
TCN, in partnership with the African Development Bank and the Federal Ministry of Finance, conducted a sensitisation programme for Project Affected Persons along the proposed reconstruction and upgrade of the Alaoji–Onitsha 330kV transmission line. Held from January 6 to 8 across Abia, Imo, and Anambra states, the exercise aimed to prepare residents for compensation and the clearing of the Right of Way ahead of construction.
The project involves upgrading the existing line to a quad circuit configuration, significantly increasing capacity, improving electricity supply reliability, and supporting growing consumer demand. TCN assured that all affected property owners would receive compensation according to approved guidelines, with the Resettlement Action Plan implemented by PGM Nigeria Limited.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has earmarked N33.9 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrade of airports nationwide. The funds target runway repairs, terminal expansions, apron improvements, perimeter fencing, and safety-critical systems. Key allocations include N800 million each for runway repairs at Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt airports, and airfield lighting at Ilorin Airport. Terminal upgrades include Katsina (N175 million), Calabar (N200 million), Maiduguri apron expansion (N800 million), and General Aviation Terminal apron at Kano Airport (N1 billion).
Perimeter security, power supply, passenger boarding bridges, baggage systems, and clinics at major airports are also included in the budget, as part of an ongoing multi-year plan to modernise Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, improve safety standards, and enhance passenger experience.
These dual initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to strengthening critical national infrastructure, improving electricity transmission, and modernising aviation facilities across the country.
