Arteta Fires Back at Critics Over Arsenal Set Piece Dominance

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has responded strongly to critics who claim his team rely too heavily on set pieces, insisting he is more concerned about why the Premier League leaders are not scoring even more goals from dead ball situations.

Arsenal currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with their dominance from corners playing a key role in their success. The Gunners equalled the single season league record for goals from corners after scoring twice in a 2 1 victory over Chelsea, taking their tally to 16 for the campaign.

Since Nicolas Jover assumed responsibility as set piece coach, Arsenal have become one of the most dangerous teams in England from dead ball situations. However, their efficiency has sparked debate, with critics arguing that such tactics reduce the entertainment value of the game.

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton suggested Arsenal would be the ugliest champions in league history if they secure the title. Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted he no longer enjoys watching some matches due to the focus on set pieces.

Arteta dismissed the criticism, stating that his objective is to ensure Arsenal become the most dominant team in every aspect of football. He echoed the views of Pep Guardiola, his former mentor at Manchester City, who believes teams should adapt rather than complain.

Undeterred by claims that Arsenal would be unattractive champions, Arteta insisted that every goal counts the same and emphasized that the Premier League demands physical and tactical efficiency above aesthetic preferences.
