Super Eagles forward and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare has become the latest Premier League player to suffer racist abuse on social media, capping what anti discrimination campaigners have described as an appalling weekend for English football.

The incident followed Wolves narrow 1 to 0 defeat to Crystal Palace, where Arokodare saw his first half penalty saved before a late winner decided the contest. After the match, the Nigerian international shared screenshots of racist messages sent from anonymous accounts, expressing disbelief that such abuse continues in modern football.

He stated that it remains shocking that individuals feel free to post racist insults without consequences and called for collective action to ensure those responsible are punished and removed from the sport.

Wolves condemned the abuse, describing it as disgusting and unlawful behavior. The club pledged full support for Arokodare and confirmed it is working with relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify those behind the messages.

Arokodare was not alone in facing abuse. Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle also received racist messages after appearing as a substitute in his side’s 3 to 1 home loss to Fulham. Sunderland strongly denounced the vile messages, stressing that those responsible do not represent the club or its values.

Similar incidents were reported after the 1 to 1 draw at Stamford Bridge involving Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri and Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana.

Anti discrimination group Kick It Out said the cases highlight a persistent problem and urged authorities to ensure meaningful consequences. The Premier League also condemned the abuse, warning that offenders could face bans and legal action.
