Tragedy at Ikeja Train Station: Man Crushed to Death by Train

A yet-to-be-identified man was tragically killed early Monday morning when he was struck by a moving train at the Ikeja train station in Lagos . The incident was confirmed by Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management (LASEMA).

According to reports, the victim was on the railway tracks heading toward Iyana-Ipaja when the accident occurred. Emergency responders were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The victim’s body has since transferred to the morgue for further processing.

In a statement, LASEMA detailed response to the distress calls received through the 767/112 Toll-Free lines at approximately 8:28 a.m. The agency activated the Eagle Response Team from Cappa Base, and they arrived at the scene by 9:02 a.m.

Upon arrival, the team discovered the body of an adult male lying on the railway track. Further investigations conducted by the Eagle Response Team revealed that the unidentified man had indeed been struck by the moving train the early hours of the day.

“The Agency’s response team recovered the body from the railway tracks. LRT bagged the commodity and handed it over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU),” the statement explained. SEHMU then transferred the body to the morgue for additional processing.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers present near railway tracks and the importance of adhering to safety protocols in these areas. As investigations continue, officials urge the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant around train stations and railway tracks to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
