Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, has clarified that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is not a member of the APC.
At a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Okocha stated, “Wike has never expressed a desire to join the APC. He remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).” He emphasized that Wike is not his opponent, asserting that the collaboration stemming from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “renewed hope” initiative is more of a philosophical movement rather than a political alliance.
“In Rivers State, I represent 002 for the renewed hope agenda, while Wike is 001. We collaborate to achieve our common interests,” Okocha added.
Okocha also criticized the judicial commission established by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to investigate the recent arson attacks on several Local Government Area (LGA) secretariats, noting that the inquiry lacks comprehensiveness as it excludes the APC Secretariat, which was also targeted. He called for a more thorough investigation, highlighting the need for a complete overview of the events to ensure justice is served, especially in light of the governor’s remarks about knowing the perpetrators.
