The Federal Character Commission has drawn a line in the sand. No government agency will be permitted to deny any Nigerian state its rightful share of federal employment opportunities, according to the commission’s executive chairman, Mrs Ayo Omidiran.
Speaking Thursday in Enugu before thousands of young people, Omidiran delivered her message at a Youth Connect programme organised by Commissioner Peter Eze, who represents Enugu State at the FCC. The event, themed ‘Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission,’ sought to debunk persistent myths about federal recruitment.
What drives this stubborn belief that federal jobs are already shared before advertisements even appear? Omidiran addressed this head-on, urging youths to abandon the mindset that opportunities are reserved for the well-connected. “We have decided that more and more agencies should advertise when they have vacancies for employment,” she explained, emphasising the commission’s push for transparency.
Eze revealed that over 700 federal ministries, departments and agencies provide employment opportunities across Nigeria. He warned job seekers against paying anyone who promises secured positions, calling such practices fraudulent.
The commission’s stance reflects a broader effort to transform talent into genuine productivity rather than allowing capable Nigerians to languish at home waiting for connections that may never materialise.
